Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 7th July 2018 Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo
Cool in the north and north-east, very warm or hot elsewhere and with plenty of dry weather too but with scattered summertime thunderstorms.
Saturday During Saturday and high pressure maintains fine weather across the UK and across much of France too, very warm here as well, if not hot. Hot and sunny weather continues across Iberia but with afternoon thunderstorms, especially across Spain. The cooler and, overall, more unsettled conditions continue across much of Scandinavia, down into parts of Germany, Poland and more eastern areas of Europe as N or NW'ly winds persist here. Much of the Med remains very warm or hot with plenty of sunshine but with, again, scattered heavy showers or thunderstorms cropping up during the afternoon and perhaps especially so across the Balkans still and towards Greece and Turkey.
Sunday During Sunday and not a great deal of change is predicted. Winds remain more N'ly across parts of Scandinavia, especially Sweden and Finland so quite cool here and also cool, for the time of year down into Poland and some other north-eastern areas of Europe. Fine weather persists across the UK, extending into northern areas of France. Spain and Portugal remain hot with sunny spells but afternoon downpours and thunderstorms are likely here. Many central and southern areas of Europe then experience plenty of dry weather with very warm or hot spells of sunshine but afternoon thunderstorms are possible, perhaps especially down central areas of Italy, into the Balkans and also across parts of Greece and Turkey still.
