Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Chilly but mainly dry central-northern Europe

Saturday
Low pressure over northwestern Iberia brings a wet day to Portugal and western Spain, snow over mountains in the north. Temperatures up to 16C for the Algarve and southern Costas. Showery for the west and north of France, but drier toward the Alps. Clusters of showers for Corsica, Sardinia and Italy. Frequent rain and mountain snow for the Balkans. Bursts of rain too for Greece with temperatures around 14C at sea level.
Generally chilly but dry across central and eastern Europe with high pressure centred around Ukraine. Top temperatures 0 to 3C in Germany and frosty overnight. Dry for Sweden and Denmark, with temperatures 3 to 6C. Very cold across northern Scandinavia, widely staying well below freezing by day, -15C or colder in northern Finland. Frequent snow showers for west and northern Norway.

Sunday
Low pressure over the western Mediterranean produces heavy rain for the Balearics, perhaps also fringing onto eastern Spain and southern France. A cold northerly wind for northern Spain will bring showers, of snow on the mountains. Much of Portugal will be dry with sunshine, 15C in the south. Scattered showers for Italy and central France, but Alpine regions will be generally dry. Showery for Greece and western Turkey. A zone of snow affects eastern Hungary and western Romania.
Staying close to freezing for Germany and Poland, but dry weather prevails beneath high pressure. A weak front gives some snow to the Baltic states, and sleet or rain for southern Sweden and Norway. Snow comes back into western Norway by evening as a front moves in from the west. Bitterly cold across Scandinavia.
