Spells of rain
Sunny far north and south

Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 27th June 2020
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Messy across central Europe through the weekend as showery outbreaks of rain, some thundery, as well as longer spells of rain associated with sweeping fronts will bring wet conditions to many countries. The south and north of Europe will be influenced more by high pressure and therefore stay largely dry.

Saturday
High pressure is expected to continue to ridge in from the Azores and will bring largely dry and fine conditions to Portugal and Spain, although cloudier skies still pose a threat to the most northern regions along with some patchy light rain. Mostly dry through the Balearics and Sardinia although cloudier than yesterday with the risk of an isolated shower possible across more northern parts.
With high pressure over central Europe, albeit weak, Saturday will start largely dry, although showery outbreaks of rain are expected to develop as low pressure moves in. Rain heaviest across Germany, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland amnd over the far north of Italy as well as a front moves through.Poland and other eastern countries will also see outbreaks of rain. The rain looks to clear to the northeast overnight. Greece is likely to see some isolated showers but Turkey will be largely dry.
Generally dry and fine across much of Scandinavia, however, through the afternoon southern parts of Norway and Sweden will become cloudy and wet as a front pushes in from the north sea.

Sunday
A simliar scene is expected across southern Europe today as on Saturday; Spain and Portugal will be largely dry and sunny but with northernmost regions seeing cloudier skies with the risk of some passing rain showers, mostly light. The Balearic islands as well as Siciliy, Sardinia and southern Italy will remain dry and fine.
Central Europe is expected to be influenced by weak low pressure which will see showers develop over many places, although sunnier spells are expected. A trough line is forecast to intensify and bring heavy and possibly thundery conditions to Austria, Hungary and Switzerland later on in the day and overnight. A drier end to the day for many countries.
Central and northern Sweden and Norway as well as Finland will see a dry and sunnny day although skies will become hazy from the south. Rain is forecast to affect southern parts of Norway and Sweden.
