Scattered Heavy Showers
Many Areas Very Warm

Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 12th July 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Scattered heavy showers or downpours are possible across some areas of Europe to end the week, but plenty of dry weather too and very warm.

Thursday
Into Thursday and low pressure across parts of Germany and into Poland will bring a risk of some locally heavy and thundery downpours here and these perhaps extending northwards up into parts of Scandinavia too. Isolated showers are possible across the UK, but otherwise more western areas of Europe remain mainly dry with plenty of sunny spells. Much of the Med will maintain very warm or hot spells of sunshine but with scattered afternoon downpours, especially across inland areas of Spain, down central areas of Italy and then especially into parts of Greece and Greece.

Friday
During Friday and low pressure will remain slow moving across more eastern areas of Germany and into Poland with a further risk of some showers, thunderstorms and perhaps longer spells of rain. Scattered heavy downpours are forecast across inland areas of Norway, Sweden and Finland during the afternoon too with local thunderstorms. Fine weather, overall, is maintained across the UK down into France and Iberia, but across inland areas of Spain afternoon thundery downpours remain possible. Equally, some locally heavy showers may also develop across the Balkans on Friday and down into Greece and Turkey where they could be locally severe. Many areas of Europe very warm or hot, especially in the south and west.
