Heavy rain and snow for Greece and Balkans

Friday
High pressure lies west of Biscay, and brings fair weather to much of Spain and Portugal, reaching 20C in the Algarve. Some rain and snow toward the Pyrenees. A dry theme for much of southern France and the Alps. Cloud and drizzly rain moves into northern France and the Low Countries.
A vigorous area of low pressure sits over the central Mediterranean, with heavy rain and mountain snow for southern Italy and Greece . Windy for the Balkans, Alps and northern Italy, also southern France, possible severe gales in places.
Central-eastern Europe stays dry and cold, with low cloud, fog and murk. Patchy snow for Poland and western Ukraine. Temperatures near or below zero all day in Germany, and widely sub-zero in eastern countries. Rain and snow moves into southwest Norway. Some snow also around Baltic coasts, focused on southern Finland.

Saturday
Southwest Europe stays dry, with winter sunshine for Spain and Portugal, again nearing 20C in the south. The west and central Mediterranean should be dry with sunshine, including much of Italy. Low pressure to the east brings unsettled and showery conditions to Greece and Turkey.
A breezy day for France, with possible gales near the English Channel. Rain or drizzle affects northern France, with some persistent rain preceded by snow for Germany, as milder air moves in from the west. Snow also affects the Czech Republic and Poland.
Scandinavia stays very cold - northern areas remaining in the deep freeze with daytime values -15C to -20C or below in the far north. Some snow flurries, but much of Norway and southern Sweden should be dry.
