Dry and sunny southern Europe

Rain on and off across central Europe


Tuesday
High pressure resides around the Bay of Biscay and brings fair weather to Iberia and much of France. Plenty of sunshine for Spain and Portugal, with an easterly breeze across southern areas. Highs of 18C in the Algarve. The western Mediterranean and Italy will be dry with sunshine. Areas of showers affect southern Greece , although the Aegean Sea stays largely dry. Fine too for Cyprus.
Fronts trailing across central Europe bring outbreaks of rain and generally mild temperatures to southern Germany and the Alps, highs around 10C. Rain also affects Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine. Breezy but mainly dry for Poland. Strong winds affect the southern Baltic and Denmark. Patchy rain and drizzle affects the Low Countries. Some rain for southern Sweden, whilst much of northern Scandinavia is dry with light winds, although very cold in the north - temperatures widely near or below freezing. Risk of a few snow showers for northern Norway, then rain and snow sets in from the west into the night.


Wednesday
Staying dry and increasingly warm across much of Iberia. Temperatures reaching 20C in southern Portugal, whilst local showers may break out for southern Spain. Plenty of sunshine across the Mediterranean. Small risk of a shower for western Italy. Patchy rain for eastern Europe. Largely dry for the Alps. Dry and mild across most of France, although a strong breeze affects the north.
A rapidly moving frontal system sweeps across northern Europe, bringing heavy rain to northern Germany and the Low Countries, spreading east across Poland into the Baltic states through the day. Rain should clear from Denmark, but areas of heavy showers affect western Norway. Widespread snow is likely across Sweden, although may turn to rain in the south. Finland may escape dry until late in the day. Gale force winds are likely around North Sea and Baltic coasts.
